Friday afternoon went well. I got Ethan to his eval appointment at the oral surgeon a whole half hour early. I am so glad I did though because their receptionist insisted on arguing with me on who made the appointment for Ethan. I told her my dentist did, she said I did. I told her no, they did, and how do I know? because I sat there staring at their receptionist while she talked to someone here. The receptionist just looked at me, Really? Ok no I am really lying to you. Well, yes, why would I lie about something like that. Really what difference does it make. With our insurance you don't have to have a referral. I gave up arguing and just sat there and stared at her until she had figured it out in her little mind.
I do belive I confused her more when I filled out the paperwork and noted that Ethan has 2 forms of insurance. Mine and the SW's. If he has 2 forms of insurance, then by god, I am going to use both forms so I don't have to pay as much. Miss argurer informed me that she wasn't sure if she could do that. Do what I asked. Bill 2 different forms of insurance. I asked why not, because the other dentist and the orthodontist and my family doctor will do it. She said ok, I'll try, how's that. Hm, you do that, dumbass.
She finally decided that she could bill both insurance company's and my co-pay would be just $40 for the nitris oxide (is that how you spell that?) because neither would cover it. I said that is just fine I will be more than happy to pay that tomorrow. She just smiled her little smile, a smile that made me wonder just how annoyed she was with me!
Ethan did great and even let the tech get 2 x-rays. Two! I was impressed. His last regular checkup was the first time anyone was able to get the first x-ray ever. And I learned something watching her that day. She told him to breathe through his nose and he wouldn't gag. He actually listened to her and did great. When doc came in to meet us and show us the x-rays he told me the extraction might go surgical because the tooth they are pulling is eroding. Not because he doesn't take care of his teeth but because it is so far back behind the other teeth and there were almost no roots at all. He said since it is eroding the tooth might break into little bits when they try to pull it. He gave us a prescription for something to make him loopy and told me to give it to Ethan about a half hour before we came in the next morning.
We leave and Ethan breaks down. He doesn't want to go back, he doesn't want them to pull his tooth, it is his favorite tooth, he needs lunch because that mean school didn't feed him. Ha. I tell him he is fine, please quit whining and we are going home. Then we stop at the drug store to get the prescription filled and he gets mad at me because we were supposed to just go home, not to Walgreens. It only took about 10 minutes to get it filled. I was shocked. Paid for the 1, one, uno, just one not 2 or ten, pill $9.95 and did go home. $10 bucks for A pill.
The next morning Scott has to leave for work at 4:30am. That is just too early for a Saturday morning. I managed to go back to sleep until a little before 7am when Harley and Emma woke up. Emma had 2 birthday parties that day so I made her shower before she got dressed. She didn't want to and I told her if she wanted her hair braided get her butt in the shower. She glared at me and told me I was mean, what a way to start out the day. I ignored it though which made her even more angry but she got in the shower.
A half hour before we had to leave I gave Ethan the loopy pill. Then I waited. I wondered if it would really work on him because other meds that say they will make a child drowsy have the totally opposite affect on him. But it worked. He sat there on the couch staring at the tv screen with his mouth hanging open. He started leaning a little and then looked up at me. To do this he actually swung his head around and said Hey mom, I feel awwwwful, I jss don't shink I should go to that dentss now. I couldn't help but laugh at him, poor guy. When it was time to go I had to help him get up from the couch and before I could grab his shoulders to guide him out to the car he tripped over his own foot. I did catch him before he fell down though. I got him in the car and he managed to buckle his own seat belt and then leaned against the window. I waited for him to drool but he never did.
I paid the annoying and annoyed receptionist the $40 and then sat in the farthest chair to wait for Ethan to be called back. Ethan sat at the kid's table, which he was way too big for, and tried to read a book. He kept turning the book and moving it closer to his face. He finally gave up and threw it down and laid down on the floor in front of me. When he was called back I had to lift him up, omg, heavy kid. He sat down in the chair and was ok still. They put the nitris mask on his nose and all of a sudden he says Hey, I looks likes Rudolphs. And then he giggled. He didn't do ok when the doc put the numbing gel on his gums. It was cold and he had figured the pain was soon to come. The doc let him calm down before he used the needle to put the gums to sleep. When I explained that was what the needles do at first he was scared then he calmed down and was ok with it. The needle went into the front of the gum and he didn't make a sound or move. The needle went into the back gum and he screamed bloody murder. The doc got him calmed down and then showed Ethan on his finger what it would feel like when he pulled the tooth. Ethan just eyeballed him around the nitris mask and kept silent. But with big crocodile tears rolling down his face. Poor guy, he was being so brave though. The doc finally said ok Ethan here we go, just remember what I told it would feel like and breathe through your nose.
And 5 seconds later it was over. The tooth didn't break and the doc even put it in a baggie for Ethan to take home to offer it up to the Tooth Fairy. Ethan was thrilled. He got up from the chair and fell right back down. I helped him up and he staggered out to the waiting room and told the receptionist bye I won't be back and walked out the door. I made his follow up appointment and got outside to find him sitting next to the car door. He glared at me as I unlocked the door and helped him up again.
We got home and I got him settled on the couch and made the mistake of putting in I-Robot. There is a scene, about half way through the movie, where Will Smith is sitting in the road and is all banged up from a car wreck and he spits out a mouthful of blood and maybe a tooth, who knows. Ethan is nice and quiet until this part. Then he stands up and does the exact same thing that Will does. So I have gauze and blood sprayed all over the living room floor. Emma grosses out and runs from the room screaming. Harley crawls as fast as he can to the bloody gauze because it is a new thing that just flew through the air and landed on his floor and has yet to be inspected. I managed to save him from the nasty thing before he put it in his mouth.
And now that you are all bored to tears I will tell you about Emma's birthday parties in another post.
