Thank You to All

Thank you to all for your kind words.  They are greatly appreciated.

It has been a week since granny passed and I am exhausted.   My mom, aunt, and uncle had made preparations for her funeral in the spring because we all knew the time was soon.  That made last week so much easier.

Granny passed away sometime between 2am and 3am on September 11.  Mom and I think she waited until she was left alone to go.  All of us had been in and out of her room all afternoon and evening.  We knew the time was near and wanted to be with her.  The hospice nurse came in to check her and said it could be anywhere from 2 hours to 12 hours.  That was at 4:30pm.  Her oxygen level at that time was 40%.

Our preacher came by and sat with us for a few hours.  He prayed with all of us and then talked with Ethan and Emma to make sure they were handling it ok.  Ethan came into the room once and took one look at Granny and burst into tears.   He said goodbye to her, patted her hand, and left the room and never came back in.  Emma would sit in her room for a while and then leave for a while.   Harley stayed in the room with myself and mom.  He would climb up on the chair by her window and tell us stories about the puppies outside and then he would get down and try to climb up on the bed with Granny.  Mom finally set him up on the bed and he crawled up and sat down by her head and patted her shoulder.  He told her some kind of story, we are not sure what it was of course, but that was one of the last times she opened her eyes.

Scott never came back but I think that is because it reminded him of when his grandmother died.  She died at home and he said that Granny sounded just like his grandmother did when the end was close.  It was too freaky for him.

Mom and I sat in there with her for a while after every one else had gone to bed.  I got to a point where I couldn't keep my eyes open and told mom to go to bed for a while at least.  Mom said she checked on Granny a few times but finally fell asleep hard about 2 am and woke up at 3 am realizing she didn't hear Granny breathing.

Her funeral was Friday in Northfield Minnesota.  Mom said it was a very nice service and there were about 60 people that attended.  Considering she hasn't lived there in over 25 years, that is  pretty good attendance.

We will have a Celebration of Life service here on October 1st.  Mom will be out of town again this week so I am going to try to write out a little program for the service so mom doesn't have to worry about it.

I have thrown myself into housework to keep busy when I'm at home.  The kids have thrown themselves into messing up the house the second I get it clean, presumeably to keep busy as well.  Turkeys

More another day.  I am ready for a nap and lunch isn't for another 2 1/2 hours.  The boss is out today so I am seriously considering climbing under my desk to nap.
